Manistee Clean Water Recovery Facility

Recent improvements to the City of Manistee’s Clean Water Recovery Facility (CWRF) involved the construction of a new headworks facility. Spicer Group was responsible for providing funding assistance, surveying, engineering design, bidding services, construction oversight, and construction inspection for the project. The headworks facility included three 2-million-gallon, above-grade, steel storage tanks with concrete bottoms and foundations as well as a headworks building housing primary treatment comprised of metering, screening, grit removal and pumping. The headworks building is approximately 44ft x 112ft. About 60% of the building is below grade with concrete construction 20ft - 30ft below the water surface of the adjacent lake.

The headworks facility is a crucial component of the CWRF treatment system. The use of high-quality concrete and precision in the construction process guarantees the facility’s integrity and long-term durability. The successful completion of this project not only demonstrates Spicer Group’s engineering excellence but also showcases the City of Manistee’s commitment to wastewater treatment infrastructure. The new headworks will contribute to cleaner lakes and a more sustainable future for the community.
