Manistee Clean Water Recovery Facility

Recent improvements to the City of Manistee’s Clean Water Recovery Facility (CWRF) involved the construction of a new headworks facility. Spicer Group was responsible for providing funding assistance, surveying, engineering design, bidding services, construction oversight, and construction inspection for the project. The headworks facility included three 2-million-gallon, above-grade, steel storage tanks with concrete bottoms and foundations as well as a headworks building housing primary treatment comprised of metering, screening, grit removal and pumping. The headworks building is approximately 44ft x 112ft. About 60% of the building is below grade with concrete construction 20ft - 30ft below the water surface of the adjacent lake.

The headworks facility is a crucial component of the CWRF treatment system. The use of high-quality concrete and precision in the construction process guarantees the facility’s integrity and long-term durability. The successful completion of this project not only demonstrates Spicer Group’s engineering excellence but also showcases the City of Manistee’s commitment to wastewater treatment infrastructure.
