Gaylord and Alpena TSC Non-Freeway Signing

As part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) annual sign replacement project, this project developed quality non-freeway signing inventory and design for 83.8 miles of non-freeway signing on M-18, M-30, M-55, M-119, M-157, and Old 55 in the Gaylord and Alpena TSC areas. This included Northern Michigan’s iconic attraction the Tunnel of Trees along M-119.

For this project, Spicer Group conducted a field review of all the existing signs along the roadways. All sign locations were recorded to the nearest 0.001 mile. Sign and support condition were also noted. The review also verified and recorded sign location, message, size, material, color, and condition. Existing Traffic Control Orders (TCOs) were also reviewed with this sign upgrade project.

Spicer Group engineers then designed the contract for the replacement, retainment, or relocation of all signs along the roadway. Sign special details were drawn using SignCad for all unique legends.
