US-141 Survey

Spicer Group used hydrographic surveying technology linked with real time GPS, laser scanning technology and conventional surveying techniques to collect information for a future bridge replacement on the US-141 Bridge over the Menominee River. Spicer Group took the data collected from three very different technologies and merged them into one combined 3D model. The deliverable was extremely accurate data that allows MDOT to observe the hydraulic model of the river bottom and structure scan of the bridge and view hundreds of types of measurements. The innovative approach of combining both bathymetric survey and laser scanning technology won this project the American Council of Engineering Companies Top Survey Award of the Year for 2008.
