Spicer Group was contracted to provide on-site surveying support for the construction of a new wet scrubber plant in Alpena, MI. The wet scrubber is used to reduce the amount of byproduct that is produced during the manufacturing process of cement. Tasks included traditional surveying and construction layout, and laser scanning and modeling of objects to be retrofitted to the scrubber vessel. Spicer Group's survey crews were on-site everyday throughout the construction of the wet scrubber. Layout while on-site ranged from foundation staking to highly precise placement of steel columns and instrumentation that is used to monitor the wet scrubber's performance.
