Henry Ford Health System Site Information Management System

The Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital is a full-service hospital located in the heart of Oakland County. In 2003, the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) embarked on a $350 million project for this site that included an 830,000-square-foot hospital expansion, three patient towers, a campus-wide energy center, and a treatment facility. Working with Spicer Group’s information technology staff, HFHS created a GIS/site information system of all cataloged improvements for the entire site. All information is incorporated into one Internet-based site to allow facility managers to easily access information in one convenient location when planning future site upgrades.

The system is set up to allow authorized users to display the location of facility features and to add, delete, or update any information related to the site. The Web-based GIS mapping portal operates with an easy-to-use interface. Users can activate a layer showing anything from native trees to landscape plants, conservation easements to wetland boundaries, storm drains to catch basins, and even parking spaces. The system can be upgraded to incorporate additional features such as building information management systems, aerial photography, and future site improvement plans.
