Bay County Road Commission Sign Inventory & Replacement Project

Between the M-13 Connector and Tiernan Road, Wilder Road in Bay County is home to businesses, residences, and hundreds of federal and state regulated road signs that direct traffic, give warnings, and relay information to the 24,000 motorists that drive this 4.5 miles of roadway every day.

The Bay County Road Commission hired Spicer Group to inventory more than 200 permanent road signs along this corridor, assessing their details like age, size, and reflectivity, on standards set by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Once assessed, the Spicer team then redesigned replacements that included details from the font, legend size, margins, borders, indents, etc. for more than 160 of the signs, including stop signs, speed-limit signs, turn-lane signs, all signage for school zones, signage for railroad and rail trail crossings, signage for local attractions, and intersection road name signs. Signs were replaced, removed, or relocated to be located in the proper placement that complies with state and federal standards.
