Chesaning Cole Park Bridge

In the winter of 2008, the historic bridge that spanned the Shiawassee River at Cole Park in the Village of Chesaning was swept away and irreparably damaged by high flood waters and ice.  With this loss, the Village was determined to rebuild the connection.

The Village raised funds and also received a $300,000 Trust Fund Grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Spicer Group assisted the Village with the grant application and following award, were responsible for grant administration, design, permitting and construction administration on this project.

The new 141-foot-long pedestrian bridge connects the two portions of Cole Park on either side of the river. The existing abutments and pathways were re-engineered to raise the new bridge out of the reach of potential ice and flood waters. The project also included pathways to provide access to the river from the riverbank and lighting of the path.
