Bay County Hawk Traffic Signal

Spicer Group collaborated with the Bay County Road Commission (BCRC) on the design of a 1-mile reconstruction of S Euclid Road, from Hotchkiss Road to M-84. Funded through the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) with contributions from the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), local funds, and Economic Development Funding, the project aimed to enhance road infrastructure, drainage, and utilities.

Spicer Group was responsible for a variety of tasks, including topographic surveys, the preparation of plans and specifications, drainage design, pavement markings, and the construction cost estimates. One of the key components of the project was the installation of a Hawk pedestrian traffic signal for the Michigan Sugar crosswalk. This signal was designed to improve pedestrian safety, offering an advanced and effective means of controlling crosswalk traffic along S Euclid Road.

The project also involved the full reconstruction of the road with a new sand subbase, aggregate base, and asphalt pavement. Lane widening was required to accommodate a center left-turn lane and a southbound right-turn lane at the Michigan Sugar driveway. Curb and gutter were added on both sides of the road, and sidewalks were replaced at all intersections.

Additional improvements included the replacement of the storm sewer system, coordination with Huron & Eastern and Michigan Sugar railways, and utility adjustments for poles, gas lines, and other infrastructure. Storm sewer captor systems were incorporated at three outlets, further enhancing the drainage capabilities of the area.
