Vassar State Game Area

Spicer Group played a key role in the Cass River Greenway Canoe/Kayak Launch Project, aimed at creating a low-impact launch on the Cass River at the Vassar State Game Area entrance along M-46. In past years, Spicer Group has collaborated with the Cass River Greenways Committee and various other communities to develop multiple canoe/kayak launches, aligning with the committee's three primary goals: improving recreation, identifying and preserving wildlife and fish habitats, and enhancing water quality.

The CRGC committee outlined specific objectives within the river corridor, including the development of a water trail with launch sites and signage and the creation of a non-motorized trail connecting communities along the river that they wanted for this project. Spicer Group successfully contributed to this initiative, completing accessible launch sites in Frankenmuth and Tuscola Townships.

Looking to expand the project northward, the CRGC aimed to develop a low-impact canoe/kayak launch at the Vassar State Game Area north of M-46 as well. This involved enhancing the existing pathway to the river, incorporating a geo-textile mat at the launch site, and utilizing the current parking lot. Spicer Group developed plans, specifications, and bidding documents for this project, as well as assistance in soliciting bids and overseeing construction.
