Owosso Schools Tennis Court Project
The Owosso High School tennis courts are used for both competitive high school tennis teams and for high school physical education classes. They consist of two separate four court “batteries” measuring approximately 200-feet by 120-feet each for a total paved surface of approximately 48,000 square feet and each four-court battery is separately enclosed with a 10-foot-high galvanized chain link fence. Each winter, large and extensive cracks would develop in the tennis court pavement, requiring crack repair each spring to the full depth of the pavement as cracks presented safety concerns for users. After crack filling, the playing surfaces had to be recoated and lines repainted as well. Spicer Group conducted a study that included a topographic survey, soil borings, pavement cores and orientation evaluations to identify the causes of the existing pavement failure. Our engineers then designed improvements to the courts to mitigate past pavement failures and performed construction inspections on the improvements to the tennis court facility to ensure a safe and competitive surface.
