Burns Park Pickleball Courts Project

Burns Park is located between Burns Avenue and Harding Avenue, just east of North Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti Charter Township. The park originally had two tennis courts that had asphalt cracking and uneven surfaces that made using the courts unsafe. Spicer Group was hired by Ypsilanti Township to design entirely new tennis courts on top of the original ones. A pattern was chosen for the courts which allowed pickleball courts to be mapped out on top of the tennis courts so that both sports could be played. The use of both types of courts was important to integrate into the design since the Township had noted pickleball’s recent rise in popularity. The courts also needed to have changes made to allow for them to be ADA accessible. Spicer Group provided all design, engineering, and survey work for the project.
