Elberta Penfold Park

Elberta Penfold Park, a charming waterfront gem located in the Village of Elberta, along the Betsie Bay underwent a transformation in 2018 to enhance accessibility and amenities within the park. The Village received a grant through the Department of Natural Resources for $220,000 to fund the project.

Spicer Group provided comprehensive services, which included grant administration, design, permitting, topographical survey, and construction administration.

The park’s design incorporated several crucial and inclusive elements to cater to a range of visitors. A key feature was the design and construction of a new restroom facility, offering a much-needed convenience to goers. Another addition was an ADA-accessible boat launch, allowing people of all abilities to enjoy the water.

A paved parking lot was also added along with a canoe/kayak launch, and a five-to-six-foot-wide access pathway to ensure everyone could navigate the park comfortably. Benches were strategically placed, along with trash bins, and a drinking fountain. There was also informational signage included in the renovated park, that contained information on fishing the Betsie Bay, along with some local history about Elberta.

The design and construction of Elberta Penfold Park represented a blend of environmental preservation and enhanced public access, transforming the park into a welcoming and well-equipped recreational space.
