Winn Lake Dam Improvements

A dam safety inspection of the Winn Lake Dam revealed several deficiencies resulting in inadequate spillway capacity and undermining of the existing spillway. Spicer Group assisted the Lapeer County Drain Commissioner in explaining the dam deficiencies to the local lake association and presented a conceptual design recommendation with cost estimates.

Spicer Group also assisted in setting a legal lake level under Part 307 of Act 451 of 1994. Hydraulic computer modeling was used to design a cost-effective spillway adequate to convey the 200-year design storm. The solution designed to address the dam deficiencies was to include an additional concrete spillway and service gates that will only be opened during significant flood events.
