Sage Lake Dam
Sage Lake is an approximately 51-acre lake formed by a lake-level control structure located on the Sage Creek within Albert Township of Montmorency County, Michigan. The control structure was constructed in the 1960’s, and the lake is used primarily for recreational and wildlife habitat, as no houses are constructed on the lake, and it is surrounded by State of Michigan-owned property. The lake has an established Part 307 Legal Lake Level, and maintenance and funding for the project is the responsibility of the State of Michigan. The lake level structure falls under the jurisdiction of Part 315 of the EGLE dam safety unit. The dam consists of a 30-inch asphalt line culvert with concrete headwall, stop logs, two (2) overflow culverts, a walking platform, and a roughly 200-foot embankment was completed in 2016 and was assessed to be in fair condition.
Spicer Group was hired by the DTMB to provide Phase 400 and Phase 500 Design services to replace the existing structure with a new structure that has increased hydraulic capacity, an improved maintenance working platform, improved debris management by means of redundant inlets, and additional inlet weir capacity. Spicer Group was also hired to provide Phase 600 and 700 services as well, but based on the preliminary construction costs, the project has currently been put on hold until funding is available.
