I-75 at LaPlaisance Road
Spicer Group provided full-time engineering assistance and as-needed inspection and material testing services to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for the reconstruction and reconfiguration of I-75 at LaPlaisance Road interchange in Monroe, Michigan. This project included demolishing portions of the existing camel-back and bridge interchange as it was beyond capacity for the daily traffic counts and at the end of its useful life cycle. The interchange was reconfigured and reconstructed to include new ramps and roundabouts at the ramp terminals on LaPlaisance Road.
After the new bridge structure was constructed over I-75, the highway was closed and detoured for two days while crews demolished the existing bridge. The roundabouts that were constructed with this project were the first in Monroe County. Spicer Group and MDOT were awarded a concrete paving award from the Michigan Concrete Association for being a part of this project.
