Traffic Signal Modernization: M58 at Hemeter Road

Spicer Group provided full-time construction inspection and material testing services for the traffic signal modernization at M-58 and Hemmeter Road in Saginaw County. The project included upgrading the existing diagonal span to a new box span configuration with 42-inch strain pole foundations and 30-foot steel strain poles. In addition, a radar vehicle presence stop-bar detection system was installed along with ADA ramp upgrades, curb and gutter, and pavement markings.

This intersection was listed on MDOT’s list of having the highest number of crashes in Saginaw County. These upgrades were made to help reduce the number of crashes and help alleviate some of the traffic backups during peak times. New push button pedestals and pedestrian traffic signals were also installed to enhance pedestrian safety at the intersection.
