Cass River Pathway Trailhead
The Bridgeport Downtown Development Authority recently acquired the property at 4422 Williamson Road, which is adjacent to the rehabilitated State Street Historic Bridge in Bridgeport Township. The bridge, originally built in 1906, spans the Cass River and is listed on the State Historic Register. The bridge was recently renovated with grant, design and construction administration from Spicer Group, as an entry to the Township’s non-motorized path system.
With assistance from Spicer Group, the DDA applied for a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant this year to utilize and enhance this space. The proposed project will develop a trailhead near the bridge and will include a restroom by renovating an existing building, developing a new pavilion, a wildlife viewing and fishing platform, bike racks, fencing, landscaping and a path to connect all of the existing and proposed features of the site. A trailhead parking lot already exists near the trailhead site and is the entrance to Bridgeport’s Cass River Pathway, a major focal point in downtown Bridgeport. Spicer Group developed a preliminary plan view concept and cost and wrote the grant for the property based on input from the DDA, Township and community.
