Jerome Township Nature Trail

In 2018 Jerome Township received a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Land Water Conservation Fund grant for $146,600 to help fund the project, along with additional private donations of about $500,000, for development of West River Road Park. The Park is located on Sanford Lake, about one mile off US-10. The roughly 40-acre site used to be the location of the original 1910 Township Hall, which has since been moved to museum grounds in Sanford. Spicer Group was hired to provide professional services which included survey, design and permitting, bidding, and construction administration for the project.

The improvements included a multi-use path which is a 4,000-foot-long loop that goes through and around wetlands and wooded areas connecting to the neighboring Sanford Senior Activity and Dining Center nearby.  A tennis and pickleball court, benches, signage for the park and trash bins were also added. This park has established a place for community members to go and enjoy the outdoors along with recreational activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, overall benefiting Jerome Township.
