Arenac Heritage Route Authority Trail
The Arenac Heritage Route had two sections in two locations that Spicer Group assisted with. The first was a route in Omer to AuGres in 2017. Spicer Group completed a study for the Arenac Heritage Route Authority for a proposed 8.5-mile nonmotorized trail connecting Omer to AuGres via an old railroad corridor. This route is on the Iron Belle Trail (IBT) route and the study was conducted with an IBT Grant. Spicer Group worked with the community to evaluate the trail routes and develop cost estimates. The results of the study were presented to the path committee in November of 2017.
The group pursued multiple grants through MDOT, DNR, and the Chippewa Indian Tribe to help fund the project. Spicer Group assisted with the grant administration, design engineering, and construction administration.
The second section of the trail was AuGres to Iosco County. The Arenac Heritage Route Authority submitted an IBT grant application to study the IBT route from the county line, southward. The results of the study were presented to the path committee early in 2019 and approved.
The group also pursued multiple grants through MDOT, DNR, and the Chippewa Indian Tribe to help fund the project. Upon completion of the study, construction began in 2021. Spicer Group assisted with the grant administration, design engineering, and construction administration.
