Frankenmuth Boat Launch
Spicer Group has worked with the City of Frankenmuth on several projects since 2010 on improvements to Memorial Park, located along East Tuscola Street. One of those projects consisted of improving 1,500 feet of a two-lane roadway through Memorial Park. Spicer Group was responsible for all the design, drainage review and improvement design, and construction administration throughout the project. Improvements included crushing and shaping the existing HMA pavement, installing roadside parking bays along one side of the road, and curb and gutter along both sides of the road. The project improved the safety for park-goers with the addition of traffic calming speed humps and a new sidewalk throughout the entire length of the project.
Spicer Group also assisted with removing the existing boat launch and construction of a new, expanded boat launch along with a 40-foot-long fishing pier. A fishing overlook platform was also installed to provide accessible fishing opportunities. As some of the sheetpile was removed with the old boat launch, new sea wall and shoreline stabilization measures were put into place, utilizing natural stone and plantings.
The project also included expanding the existing parking lot for safer circulation and installing a concrete pad for an accessible portable restroom. A new accessible trail was created from the parking area to the fishing platform.
The City was awarded a $225,000 grant through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund program for this project. Spicer Group was responsible for the grant administration, design, bidding assistance, survey, and construction administration on this project.
