Bay County Recreation Planning and Grant Assistance

Spicer Group has outstanding experience in facilitating, assembling, and writing MDNR-approved 5-year Area Recreation Plans and recently helped to complete a draft of an update to the 2009 Recreation Plan for Bay County.

This plan incorporates the goals, objectives, and action items of Bay County along with those of 15 municipalities within the County ‑including two cities and 13 townships. This is a collaborative effort which allows the County to pursue goals for county-wide parks and recreational facilities while allowing townships and cities within the County to pursue goals for more local facilities. Our previous work in facilitating the 2009 Recreation Plan with Bay County alone has helped to open nine grants in Bay County during the past five years to help fund projects totaling over $2.7 million dollars, including three grants to begin in 2014 to assist with projects totaling $351,500.

Bay County was not the only municipality Spicer Group has assisted with their Recreation and Master Plans, but we helped those communities obtain millions of dollars in grant funding to make those plans a reality. In 2013 alone, our Planning Department helped communities across Michigan secure more than $4.4 million in grant funding for recreation projects. In the last three years, that total has exceeded $7.3 million.
