The Construction Services Group provides Construction Engineering, Inspection, and Material Testing services for a variety of client and project types including federal, state, and municipal/local agencies. The Construction Services Group was officially formed in 2000 to meet the growing MDOT market, while still meeting our existing clients’ needs. It is led by Wayne Zolnierek, P.E., who is assisted by Construction Managers Rick Born and Brent Dankert, P.E.

Our team of engineers and technicians, which includes more than 20 full-time employees, oversee projects from the beginning stages of construction to the final product. We help ensure that the projects are constructed as designed and within the specifications. Our technicians work daily on construction projects observing and documenting contractors’ operations.

This group of experienced staff are the eyes and ears for the Project Engineers and our clients. They are constantly reviewing the plans and specifications to make sure contractors are constructing projects in accordance with those. Our engineers and technicians work when the work is being done, which is not a typical eight hours a day or five days a week, and they often work daylight to dark and even nights, up to seven days a week.

The Construction Services Group has provided as-needed and full construction engineering services on multiple projects throughout the state, including:

  • Nearly 60 miles of I-75 reconstruction and rehabilitation projects spanning from the Genesee County Line north to the Ogemaw County Line, which included the rehabilitation and/or reconstruction of over 30 bridges.

  • The I-96/US-23 Interchange Reconstruction Project in Brighton

  • US-131 Bypass in Constantine, which included the construction of nearly 5 miles of brand-new highway through existing farm fields and wood lots and a new 870 foot bridge over the St. Joseph River
