Richland Pump Stations
Spicer Group assisted Richland Township with the replacement of three wastewater pump stations as part of a critical infrastructure improvement project identified in the Capital Improvement Plan following the 2018 SAW Grant. Spicer Group served as the lead engineering firm, providing all design, permitting, and construction administration services throughout the project.
Pump Station #1, located along E. Saginaw Road (M-46), was originally constructed in the early 1970s as a steel can-style station requiring confined-space entry for maintenance. Due to its deteriorated condition and limited wet well capacity, the station frequently surcharged, risking backups and requiring immediate response from the DPW. Given its role as the central station through which all Township wastewater flows to the treatment lagoons, its replacement was a top priority. Spicer Group designed a new submersible pump station and forcemain, coordinated the installation of a new backup generator, and managed the demolition and abandonment of the existing infrastructure.
Pump Station #2 on N. Hemlock Road, also a 1970s-era can-style station, was replaced with a new submersible system to meet the capacity demands of anticipated development in the area. Spicer Group oversaw the design and construction of the new facility and the removal of the old station.
At Pump Station #3, located off Doyle Road in the Pleasant Valley Development, Spicer Group managed upgrades to pumps, electrical systems, and controls. These improvements included relocating the generator from Pump Station #1 and integrating all stations into a unified monitoring platform for the DPW.
Spicer Group’s involvement was key to the successful completion of these essential upgrades, enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and capacity across the Township’s sanitary sewer system.
