The Pines Historic Dow Home Repairs

In 1899, Dow Companies Founder Herbert H. and his wife Grace A. Dow built The Pines. This historic residence is on the national registry and required SOI approval for proposed restoration work that Spicer Group’s Historic Architect had planned for the structure. The stone foundations and stone porch had deteriorated over the years and had been subjected to repairs using the improper materials. A sample of the original high lime mix mortar was found, and the mix was specified in the drawings for the repair work. The granite stones were photographed and cataloged so that they could be placed in their original locations. The project was successful, and these portions of this home are preserved for another 100 years.
