Saginaw Rear River Range Light House Restoration
Spicer Group is working to restore the Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse as part of a larger nature preserve and educational center. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the lighthouse will be open to the public for tours. Spicer Group has been engaged to design the restoration with modern materials that preserve the structure’s historic character.
Spicer Group provided design services for the demolition plan, elevations, lighting and electrical plans, floor plans, and detailed construction drawings.
Originally lit in 1876 and deactivated in the 1970s, the lighthouse was abandoned until recent renovation efforts by Dow in collaboration with the Saginaw River Marine Historical Society, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Michigan’s EGLE.
Spicer began by researching the lighthouse’s history and then used 3D scanning technology to capture detailed exterior measurements, complemented by manual interior measurements converted into CAD drawings. The restoration plan includes accessible restrooms, a storage building, a ramp to the main floor, and site improvements such as concrete replacement, rust removal, and period-appropriate lighting installation.
