Waldo Intercounty Drain
The Waldo and Branches Intercounty Drain project began in 2018 and spans from the Kawkawlin River in Beaver Township northwest into Larkin Township in Midland County, measuring just over 20 miles in length. The drain was preexisting; built originally in 1905, however, it needed updating after extensive flooding. Once Spicer Group reported findings of log jams, sediment build up, and vegetation obstructions from a condition survey that was performed, the all clear was given to renovate the drain. This included engineering design, construction administration and survey work. The drain was installed for agricultural and residential purposes that would help to minimize flooding using concrete box culvers, corrugated metal pipe arches, and HP storm pipe. Larkin Township, where the drain starts, needed a new method to help capture and reduce water in many areas of the township, especially in the spring. The total project costed $5.4 million and was completed in the spring of 2022.
