St. Charles Assisted Living Facility

Spicer Group was hired by the company DCS Rentals to assist with the process of converting Miller Elementary School into an assisted living home that now goes by the name Union Court Assisted Living. It is located in St. Charles which sits right outside the Shiawassee River about 12 miles from Saginaw Township and 18 miles from Birch Run. The St. Charles Miller Elementary School moved just up the road a couple miles to West Walnut Street.

The project lasted roughly 3 years and involved transforming the 29,000 square feet school building into an apartment complex with 30 apartments for residents over 50 years of age to live in. Along with the apartments, the new plans also had to include a director’s office, laundry facilities, a community kitchen, dining hall, and several other small community spaces. Spicer Group did a walk through and survey prior to any designing of the new facility.

Demolition of major sections of the building took place which included the gymnasium that Spicer Group provided suggestions and interior plans for. After that, our architects submitted and revised plans for the fire suppression system, common kitchen and dining areas, conversion of bathroom into laundry facility, new air conditioning units and electrical lighting and circuits. We also provided assistance in the plan review submission and replacement of the windows in the front of the building.
