M14 and US23 Bridge over Huron River

Spicer Group provided full construction engineering services for the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Brighton TSC for the rehabilitation of the M-14/US23 Bridge over the Huron River in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The M-14/US23 bridge is a major traffic corridor and critical to maintaining commuter and shipping routes within the downtown Ann Arbor area. The bridge is a fracture critical structure and all work to rehabilitate the structure to maintain and extend its lifecycle needed to be completed under live traffic.

This project is part of MDOT’s innovative contracting and is being delivered through a Construction Manager/General Contractor Contract. It included pin and hanger replacement, bearing replacement, and bridge rehabilitation. The contractor on this project developed a specialized scaffolding system to perform all the necessary work beneath the bridge and over a fast-moving river safely. Spicer Group acted as the project manager and project engineer, reviewed plans and shop drawings, providing inspection and material testing for this project.
